Nestled in the picturesque Manaslu region of north-central Nepal, a groundbreaking initiative is taking shape to revolutionize rock climbing tourism in the area. The Rising Rock Foundation has set its sights on developing over 40 safe, bolted sport climbing routes in the region's high-potential granite and limestone crags.

A key aspect of the project involves empowering local Nepali guides with training in route-setting, safety measures, and instruction techniques. By equipping these guides with the necessary skills, the project not only enhances the safety of climbers but also creates new opportunities for local employment and income generation. Beyond just creating climbing routes, the Rising Rock Foundation places a strong emphasis on preserving the natural and cultural heritage of the region. By promoting sustainable community development through climbing tourism, the foundation aims to foster deeper cultural connections and provide sustainable sources of income for local communities. To garner support for this impactful project, the foundation is employing various strategies such as emotional storytelling, social media visibility, and partnership building initiatives. By emphasizing the positive impact of the project on both the local communities and the environment, the foundation aims to attract funders, donors, climbers, and rock climbing businesses to join their cause. Established in 2025, the Rising Rock Foundation was born out of a vision to leverage climbing tourism as a force for good in the Manaslu region. With a primary focus on areas near villages affected by recent road developments, the foundation seeks to introduce sport climbing infrastructure as a means to diversify tourism and provide much-needed support to local communities. Through its innovative approach to sustainable community development, the Rising Rock Foundation is spearheading a movement to bring about lasting change in the Manaslu region of Nepal. By promoting longer stays, fostering cultural exchanges, and creating new economic opportunities, the foundation is paving the way for a brighter future for all involved.
